Here’s someone who is doing something pretty special: Cindi Rauch is doing 50 “centuries” (100 mile rides) in 50 days in 50 states. A logistical challenge and physically demanding. Take a look at her blog:
For those in the Vancouver, Washington area we have a great cycling club. If you are inclined you visit the Vancouver Bike Club by clicking on the image below:
The Adventure Cycling Association is a great organization for cyclists. They are located in Missoula, Montana and provide a host of services. For those that are interested, they provide maps and map sets for the thousands of miles of roads and trails in the U.S. Visit their site by clicking on the image below:

Here’s a place I missed last summer – The Puffin Cafe at the Port of Camas/Washougal. It’s a little like being in the tropics and the food and drink are great. If you visit tell the owner, Rob, that cyclist David said “Hi”. Check it out by clicking on the image below:
I had a great experience here at The Inn at Pacific City. Very nice place, reasonable rates and clean. The manager’s, David and Prudence extended a significant discount to me and made sure my room was ready well in advance of the normal check-in time. A blessing for this weary traveler:
This little town in Oregon is great. Blue River is located at mile 40 heading east out of Eugene on Highway 126. Chris at River Mountain Resort put me up for the night. Click on the image to visit their site:
And while you are in town visit Reservoir Dawg’s for some good grub:
If you are passing through Mitchell Oregon then this is a good place to stay. The Oregon Hotel is a restored historic hotel which means they have only a couple of ensuite baths. They also have a hostel which is inexpensive for those of us living on a tight budget while cycling. Click here to visit their website.
I’m not normally a hostel kind of guy but this place is exceptional. Dave Loos, the owner/operator is terrific. It’s clean and for cyclists it’s great because Dave will store your bike in a secure shed during your stay. I had a great experience here at the Hutchins Hostel.
For cyclists or those just passing through the Hotel Eastin is a great place to stay. Rooms start at just $25 per night with a shared bath. The place is very clean and run by a very nice couple. Kremmling has some nice restaurants and watering holes. I’d highly recommend the Hotel Eastin.
